About DeepWaters LPC

Smiling man outdoors with trees in the background.

Going beneath the surface is hard. You shouldn't have to do it alone.

I'm Bryan Snead, M.A., NCC, LPC, LMFT-S, founder of DeepWaters LPC.

I help adults and couples understand and change the automatic patterns that can take over when life, relationships, emotions, or pain become difficult.

Often, people come to therapy knowing something has to change without fully understanding what keeps happening or how to make it different.

That's a good place to start.

Why “DeepWaters”?

What happens beneath the surface shapes what happens above it.

The things we see - anger, defensiveness, withdrawal, control, shame, repeated behavior, conflict, even some experiences of persistent pain - are often only part of the story.

Underneath may be fear, hurt, emotional learning, beliefs, nervous-system responses, attachment experiences, old ways of protecting ourselves, or meanings we've learned to make of what happens around us.

Therapy gives us a place to slow those patterns down, understand them, and work with what is actually keeping them active.

Understanding what is underneath doesn't excuse harmful behavior.

It gives us a more useful place from which to change it.

That is the “deep waters” part of the work.

The other part is the safe harbor.

I believe difficult work requires enough safety to be honest, curious, challenged, and sometimes uncomfortable without having to navigate it alone.

A Different Career, for a Reason

Before becoming a therapist, I spent more than two decades working in technology and high-performance computing.

I enjoyed the work and was good at it. But over time, I became increasingly aware that I wanted my work to be more relational, more personal, and more closely connected to helping people.

Changing careers meant starting over - school, graduate training, internships, supervision, and years of clinical development.

It wasn't the easiest path.

It was the right one.

During that training, I became especially interested in trauma, relationships, the brain and nervous system, and the ways experiences that may not be obvious on the surface continue to shape how we respond.

I also pursued training as both a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapist because I don't believe people make sense outside of their relationships and the systems in which they live.

We are individuals, but we don't exist in isolation.

That perspective continues to shape how I practice today.

What It's Like to Work With Me

I want therapy to lead somewhere.

I'm interested in understanding your story, but therapy with me isn't simply about talking indefinitely about what happened.

We may slow things down and get very curious about a pattern.

We may work on your ability to stay present when strong emotions or physical sensations arise.

Sometimes we'll go deeper into experiences or emotional learning that still carry weight.

And eventually, we'll work on what it looks like to respond differently in your actual life.

My role isn't to tell you who you should become.

It's to help you understand what keeps getting in the way of the life and relationships you want - and help you develop greater freedom in what happens next.

The goal isn't perfect regulation.

It's greater choice.

Skilled Therapy Without a One-Size-Fits-All Model

Training matters to me.

I've pursued advanced training in relational work, trauma treatment, chronic pain, attachment, experiential therapies, and the neuroscience and neurophysiology of the brain and nervous system.

But I don't expect you to fit neatly into a particular therapy model.

Depending on what you're working through, I may draw from approaches such as Restoration Therapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems, Coherence Therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, couples and family-systems approaches, and behavioral therapies.

The modality is a tool.

The person in front of me is more important than the tool.

Finding the Right Therapist Matters

Credentials and training are important.

So is whether you can actually work with the person sitting across from you.

I take therapeutic fit seriously.

I tend to work especially well with people who are willing to become curious about their own patterns - even when another person, a painful history, a difficult relationship, or circumstances outside their control are also part of the problem.

You don't have to understand those patterns before coming in.

You don't have to know what kind of therapy you need.

And you certainly don't need to have everything figured out.

You only need somewhere to begin.

DeepWaters May Be a Good Place to Start If...

  • You keep asking, “Why do I react this way?”

  • You know what you wish you had done differently—but usually realize it afterward.

  • Anger, defensiveness, control, shame, withdrawal, or another repeated behavior is hurting your relationships or quality of life.

  • Betrayal has changed an important relationship and you're trying to determine what happens next.

  • Chronic pain has begun narrowing your life.

  • You and your partner keep getting pulled back into the same cycle.

  • You know something has to change, even if you can't yet explain exactly what.
