Couples & Relationship Therapy

You keep having the same fight in different forms.

One person pushes. The other shuts down.

Someone gets defensive. Someone feels unheard.

Both leave the conversation more disconnected than before.

DeepWaters LPC helps couples understand the patterns underneath recurring conflict and develop different ways of responding to each other.

Start With a Free 15-Minute Consultation

Maybe this feels familiar.

  • The same arguments keep coming back.
  • Conversations escalate faster than you intended.
  • One of you pursues while the other withdraws.
  • Defensiveness makes it difficult to hear each other.
  • Repair takes too long—or never really happens.
  • You know you love each other but increasingly feel like opponents.

The problem may not simply be what you're arguing about.

It may be what happens between you when something important gets activated.

The argument isn't always the pattern.

What happens on the surface may be shaped by hurt, fear, attachment needs, shame, expectations, emotional learning, or protective responses that activate very quickly.

One partner may push harder to restore connection.

The other may pull away to reduce conflict or overwhelm.

The goal isn't to decide who's right.

It's to understand what keeps happening between you.

Couples Therapy

Sometimes One Person Needs Individual Support

Sometimes One Person Needs Individual Support

Sometimes the best place to work on the problem is together.

Couples therapy can focus on:

conflict • connection

 • trust • communication •

attachment • repair

intimacy • recurring relational cycles

Sometimes One Person Needs Individual Support

Sometimes One Person Needs Individual Support

Sometimes One Person Needs Individual Support

There are times when one person's dysregulation, trauma responses, shame, anger, defensiveness, withdrawal, or other automatic patterns make productive couples work difficult.

Individual therapy may help that person build the awareness and capacity needed to participate differently in the relationship.

Individual work does not have to replace couples work.

Explore Automatic Patterns

Sometimes the best approach is collaborative.

DeepWaters LPC also offers a co-therapy model in which each partner may have an individual therapist while both therapists collaborate in joint sessions when clinically appropriate.

This can allow each person to receive

individual support without

losing sight of the relationship.

Has there been a betrayal or major rupture?

Sometimes the relationship problem is not simply recurring conflict.

If there has been infidelity, secrecy, broken trust, or another significant rupture, individual or couples work may need a different starting point.

Explore Betrayal & Relationship Rupture

The relationship doesn't have to stay stuck here.

Whether you're trying to reconnect, repair after hurt, or simply understand why the same interaction keeps repeating, we can begin by

identifying what is happening between you.
